Today was the day! The last thing I had to check off my pre chemo list has been done. Port placement.
Doesn’t look too pretty but so far I’m in little pain. The procedure itself was very easy.
I was but in a deep relaxation. Aka I passed out. Well I think I did. The nurse however told my mom that I was extremely talkative. Not embarrassing at all. ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
When my oncologist gave me the option of having a port I didn’t think twice. It makes things so much easier during chemo.
They can easily access the port and can do multiple things from it. They can draw blood, give chemo, and if I need a CT they can give me the dye in the port.
Because I had so many lymph nodes removed during my mastectomy, I have only been able to use my right arm for blood draws, anesthesia, etc. This will make all of that so much easier.
It doesn’t look pretty right now. But it doesn’t feel too weird yet either. I’ll keep you guys updated.
I have another meeting with my oncologist tomorrow to go over all things chemo so I will be prepared.
Wednesday is my first infusion.
I’m ready.
Thanks for all the messages. I see each and every one of them and they put a smile on my face.
Until next time.
Ask them for some lidocaine cream to put on 30-60 min prior to getting your port accessed. Good luck with your appointment.

Youโve got this lady!! Stay strong and keep your head up. Chemo probably wonโt be a walk in the park, but it might not be nearly as bad as you think either!! And youโll get to watch so many Lifetime movies during infusion ๐ Good luck and all the positive vibes!

I’ve been following your story since I saw the post on the Bobby Bones Show facebook page. I was diagnosed last August and I was able to do a lumpectomy, followed by chemo and radiation. I just finished radiation 2 weeks ago. The port is definitely helpful. Lemon drop candies helped me during chemo with dry mouth and popsicles lemon or lime flavored from Outshine. It’s a tough road but you got this!! I’ll be saying prayers and thinking good thoughts for you in the days and months to come.

Your story is very inspiring. Technology has come a long way in health care and I hope everything goes well for you. I myself am a mammographer and I was wondering if you could tell how you originally found the cancer, did you feel a lump? Thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Amanda! If you go to the first blog post it explains it in detail. Basically Iโve had Fibroadenomas since I was 17 so I went twice a year to be checked. This time they grabbed onto it and did an in office ultrasound. Then had me biopsy it the next day.

Because of you and your bravery and sharing your story she found it in herself to share her story to. You have given her that voice to talk about her journey and be comfortable talking about it!
